Private balances on Robinhood Chain

Your balance is nobody else’s business

Every amount you hold and every payment you make is published, permanently, to anyone who cares to look. Obscura is built to let you stop doing that on Robinhood Chain — without pretending it makes you invisible.

Every payment you make is published

The sender, the recipient, the amount and the time are all written to a ledger that anyone can read, forever. Not leaked — published. That is how the chain works.

Three places money can sit

Private and anonymous are not the same word

Most products use them interchangeably. The difference decides whether someone can see what you hold, or whether they can see that it was you.

An ordinary Robinhood Chain balance. Everything about it is open, which is what makes the chain verifiable.

The figure is sealed. Your address is not — anyone can still tell this account exists and that it uses Obscura.

Hidden

A note in a shared pool. Nothing on-chain connects it to the account that funded it.

Before you trust it

What it does not hide

Concealed

How much you hold, once shielded

How much any private transfer moved

Which pool note you are spending

The link between a deposit and a later withdrawal

Still visible

That this wallet uses Obscura at all

That a shield or unshield happened, and for how much

Your address, on every confidential transfer

The timing of everything you do

All of the above to Robinhood first, which runs the sequencer that orders every transaction on the chain

Shielding funds is itself a public act: the amount going in, the wallet it came from and the destination are all readable. What changes is that the balance stops being readable afterwards. To break the link to your history as well, the funds have to go through the shared pool — and that is a separate step the interface will keep telling you about.

How it works

Four moves, and one of them is waiting

  1. 01

    Shield

Move funds out of public view

Your balance becomes encrypted on-chain. The network can still verify it without reading it. This step is itself public — the interface says so at the point you do it.

  2. 02

    Hold

Keep it readable only by you

A private balance behaves like any other: spendable, verifiable, yours. The figure is sealed to everyone else, including us.

  3. 03

    Send

    Pay without publishing the trail

Through the shared pool there is no on-chain line joining you to the person you paid. They can claim it even if they have never used Obscura before.

  4. 04

    Wait

    The delay is the mechanism

A note cannot be spent the instant it is created. If it could, an observer would simply match the deposit to the withdrawal by timing — and the pool would protect nobody.

Hold it quietly

Open an account and look around. Nothing is signed, sent or settled until you choose it.
